Libraries Open Doors For Everyone

Local Libraries Receive Grant to Install Electronic Door Openers

The Outagamie Waupaca Library System (OWLS) has been awarded Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds to improve accessibility at five (5) of our members libraries' locations be retrofitting entrance doors with electronic door openers.

The participating libraries are Marion Public Library, Black Creek Village Library, Kimberly-Little Chute Public Library (2 locations), and Weyauwega Public Library.

Installing automatic door operators will ensure that public library collections, services, and buildings are fully accessible to patrons with disabilities and their families and advocates.  The openers will also provide convenience for the elderly, children and people carrying heavy loads or pushing strollers.

Black Creek Village Library director, Rebecca Buchmann, notes, "We see many patrons with disabilities who come in with a friend or family member to help them , but we fear that there are others in the community who are not using the library simply because they physically cannot enter the building.  Installing door openers will help us meet our mission to provide equal access to information for all the members of the community,"

The Outagamie Waupaca Library System (OWLS) is one of the 17 library systems in Wisconsin.  We support 16 public libraries in Outagamies and Waupaca counties.

This project is supported by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds, awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

There's more to Marion Public Library than just books!

When most of us think of the library, we think of books.  And that's true, Marion Public Library has a wonderful selection of books for all ages, fiction and non-fiction.  But did you know our library has so much more than books?  Here's some other great things we have to offer here at Marion Public Library:

-Videos and DVDs- We have an extensive collection of videos and DVDs here at the library!  You'd be surprised--we even have new releases that you'd find at the video store.  And even better--checking a video out from the library is FREE, and you can have them for a full week!

-Audio Books- Don't have time to read a book?  Have trouble seeing?  Taking a long car trip?  Audio books are for you!

-Playaway- These are the same as audio books, except they're in MP3 form.  All you need is a AAA battery and ear buds (ear buds are available at the circulation desk) and you're in business.

-Puzzles, Puppets, Educational Toys, Video games and Books on Tape and CD- We all know what the weather has been like this week.  Are the kids bored with their same old toys?  Bring them to the library!  There's so much to choose from, they're bound to be having fun before you know it.

-Magazines- Can't afford to subscribe to all the magazines you want to?  You're in luck!  You can stop in and sit on a cozy chair and read the latest issue, or back issues of magazines are available for checking out.  The library also has newspapers for you to enjoy, too.

-Computers and Wireless Internet- Sometimes it's hard to get internet access, or you don't have access to a computer at home.  Come visit the library, and use one of our computers, or bring your own laptop and use our wireless internet!  What better place to work on a project or online work than in the library setting.

The best part?  All of these are available for no cost to you!  Come in soon and take advantage of the wonderful materials to choose from at Marion Public Library!
